Tamarind House Rarotonga Wedding Photos – Jason & Kirsten’s sneak peek!
A couple of weeks ago, we were lucky enough to photograph Jason & Kirsten’s gorgeous wedding at the Tamarind House, in Rarotonga.
We love shooting at Tamarind – it’s big, open, has great ambiance – not to mention the beautiful fairy lights on the trees!
This particular day in Raro was windy!! Screaming in from the SW, we needed to adjust the plans slightly to favour the sheltered side of the island.
Jason’s father had carved these pounamu especially for the boys to wear – which was really special.
There were plenty of laughs throughout the day – these guys were the most energetic bridal party! I don’t think I’ve ever heard the Zulu vocals from ‘The Circle of Life’ sung quite so enthusiastically (or accurately!!)
The property they had rented in Vaimaanga was easily big enough to house everyone… so while the antics downstairs continued, the girls were finishing off their preparations upstairs – Kirsten’s Mum helped her perfect the flowers in her hair.
They decided to do their bridal party photos pre-ceremony – which was lovely, as we had all the time in the world to make our way from their beach, right up to the Tamarind House – with a few stops in between!
Stop one… the beach. About 20 metres from their front doorstep. That’s the life, huh!
Down the road, we had come across this cool field with a tree. Unfortunately, the field had a tree… and prickly little biddy-bids that stuck themselves all through the girls dresses! Once we discovered the problem though, we were already right into the field… so we stayed & captured a few shots while we were there.
Plus – it provided something to do on the car trip to the next spot!!
There was a bit of cool coral on the beach here (well, ‘beach’ being a relative term – there’s no sand, just big lumps of coral)..
Our last stop en-route to the ceremony was this great little track – so lush, green, and Raro!
Plus – the added bonus of a high vantage point for this dramatic, Jurrasic Park meets winding country lane, shot…
Down at the Tamarind House, the chairs were in place – as the local string band provided background music.
Kirsten’s Dad looked so proud as he walked her down the aisle.
We had a few minutes, during which the sunset occurred. The rotation of the earth wasn’t really in question… we knew the sun would eventually go down… but would the prevailing clouds let enough light through to make anything look cool???
Back at the Tamarind House, the light was fading fast from the sky, and the fairy lights on the trees came alive.
As the bridal party headed in for a much anticipated meal, we floated around to capture a few of the final details in the diminishing light.
Jason & Kirsten – thank you both so much for allowing us to share a part in your beautiful island wedding. We had a great time with you all – and maybe we’ll see you back next year for an anniversary getaway!
