Craggy Range Hawkes Bay wedding photos – Thomas & Andrea’s sneak peek!
Last Sunday, we made the trip down from Auckland to the beautiful Hawkes Bay, to photograph Thomas & Andrea’s wedding at Craggy Range winery.
It was one of the hottest weddings we’ve photographed… 34 degrees and sunny!
We headed over to catch up with Thomas & groomsmen in the morning… and the wind was blustery, lifting the iron on the roof & making plenty of noise. We were a little worried… as the plan was to head up Te Mata peak later in the day for photos… and if it was this windy down here.. how bad would it be up top??
We shelved those concerns for the time being though.. and the guys got ready to go.
Then we headed out to Craggy Range, where Andrea & the girls were getting ready in one of the onsite cottages there.
Andrea was looking stunning in her dress:
The persistent wind was still around… moments after this shot was taken, most of these chairs blew over!
Their ceremony was lovely – joint managed by a friend of theirs, and a minister.
I love that no matter what the conditions, the heat, the wind – at this point of the day, nothing can distract them from one another!
The bridesmaids acquired a helper..
Generally, the group & family shots tend to be more focused on the ‘people’ and less dependent on the location.
But at Craggy Range.. even the group photos feature the stunning landscape!
We raced off with the bridal party for a few whirlwind shots around the grounds at Craggy Range…
The view back up towards Te Mata peak is dramatic and stunning…
It was then into the cars, and we raced off with just Thomas & Andrea for some shots up the top of Te Mata peak.
The road up there is about as sketchy as you’d expect.. but it’s amazing what some adrenaline & a diminishing timeline will do for your driving confidence!
The track was narrow, and the wind was screaming through the peaks.. luckily, Tom was there to help out with Andrea’s train.
And then, all of a sudden, we were there.
And it got epic.
Plenty of ‘canvas for the wall’ potential there!!
On the way back down, we made another quick stop, and spent 5 minutes shooting this gorgeous backlight.
This image has a bit more sparkly stuff on the left hand side in the out-of-focus part… which was me tucked in behind Thomas & Andrea, throwing a handful of grass up into the sunlight behind them. The wind caught it and whisked it straight away… but Amber was quick enough to catch a glimpse of it in this image.
We arrived back at Craggy Range, where their reception was in a marquee, that stretched over the vines.
Inside, the tables were decorated in a cool vintage theme, with birdcages, little birds – and these were echoed in Andrea & her bridesmaid’s beautiful bouquets – which had a birdsnest theme too.
The marquee had beautiful chandeliers..
And the cake looked amazing. (later on in the evening, I discovered it tasted amazing, too!)
The last of the evening light, looking up to Te Mata peak across Craggy Range’s lake & driveway. Such a peaceful way to enjoy an evening.
After a delicious dinner, we managed to sneak down into the wine cellar for a few romantic shots… assisted by fabulous bridesmaid Zoe, who was holding our light for us!
We finished up the night partying away – the dancefloor was outside on the grass… here’s the view from all the way across the lake, looking back, with reflection.
Thank you both for having us along to share a part in your wedding day – we had an absolute ball, and you guys were fantastic – talk about going the extra mile to ensure that we had everything we needed to work with!
Enjoy this little, tiny, sneak peek of what’s to come 🙂
Isaac & Amber.
