2013 NZ Wedding Photography Workshop Tour – Perspectives Photo + Cinema

Wedding Photography Workshop

Hi guys,

We’re now halfway through our workshop & seminar tour – they’ve kicked off with a bang!

In the comments box at the bottom of this page, you can read some reviews from people that have attended.

We’ve also posted a set of images from each of the two lighting workshops – so you get the idea of what we’re covering.
Here’s the poster:

We’ve now presented the first stops on our tour in Hamilton & Auckland, with great feedback from attendees!

Our lighting workshops have been covering indoor situations & how to find the best light in the room and use it effectively, plus outdoor shooting in harsh sunlight, and shooting images at night.

We plan to follow this format for the upcoming workshops – so you’ll have 4 hours of hands on shoot practice with models, where we demonstrate our lighting setups for you to play with.

Below are a few slideshows with images we’ve created during the Hamilton & Auckland workshops over the last few weeks.

A bit more info….

The Seminar

Our seminars are basically the information we want to share with people who want to build their own wedding photography businesses. The stuff we wish we’d been told 5 years ago.

About half of the day will be dedicated to business. From marketing and getting people in the door, to converting those people into your clients, to maximizing sales through albums & portrait sessions, and finally generating great referrals so their friends come to you, too.

The other half will focus on technique. How we plan for a wedding. The timelines we suggest to our clients. What we’re looking for on the day – along with example images. A bit about lighting, a bit about posing & direction, and a bit about composition. Then we’ll also cover some of our post-production techniques & workflow.

Finally, we’ll have time for a bit of Q&A at the end.

We’ll give you copies of our powerpoint slides – so you get take home notes, too.

There is no skill level or pre requisite for this seminar. It will be mainly focused on wedding photography – so it will suit people with wedding photography businesses, or those wanting to get into wedding photography.

If you’re interested in booking a place in one of our photography seminars in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington, or Christchurch – email us at [email protected] and we can send you an invoice to secure a place.

The Workshop

We’re big lighting geeks. Essentially.

So with this workshop, we’re planning to share our passion for lighting with you. The title “Seeing the Light” is important… because this won’t be 100% about off camera flash / video lighting. Rather, it’s about identifying the best light you have to work with in any given situation.

Sometimes there will be great natural light that we can utilize. Sometimes we’ll need to create our own. We’ll go through what we look for & what we “see” in a range of different situations.

This is a hands-on workshop – there’ll be plenty of opportunity to put what you learn into practice. We’ll have a couple for you to photograph, and we’ll spend time moving between different locations, looking to identify the best light & compositions, and then direct our couple accordingly.

You’ll get the chance to play with our lighting equipment, and we’ll run through different common wedding scenarios (for instance, terrible light at the ceremony, lighting big group shots, creating big epic dramatic shots with off camera flash, etc.). With the timelines, we’ll have the chance to finish up with some evening shooting too – again working on incorporating the ambient light into our scene & adding some of our own lighting touches.

Finally, we’ll head back for an image review & a quick insight into how we’d edit the images we’ve captured on the day.

We’ll wrap up around 8pm for those with kids to get back to… but we’ll be available for cake, coffee, and questions until 10pm.

You don’t need to know anything about off-camera lighting to do this workshop – but you would need a competant understanding of operating your camera in ‘manual’ mode. Many of the techniques we’ll cover require a good understanding of how aperture, shutter speed, and ISO contribute to the overall image.

The workshops will be wedding focused – and although the lighting will work for any kind of portraiture, it will definitely be tailored towards shooting a wedding.

The number of participants on each workshop is limited to 8 people – so that we can spend a good amount of time individually with everyone, making sure you get the most possible out of the day.

If you’d like to reserve a space on one of our lighting workshops – email us at [email protected]
