Cassels wedding photos – Genna & Gavin’s sneak peek!
The “weather bomb”.
It’s pretty much all the country was talking about. Saturday was going to be a day of rain, wind, and general craziness. And – Gavin & Genna’s wedding day.
Now – not to make light of the weather, which, to be fair, did make a big mess of Taranaki… but in Auckland, we woke up to sun! The wind was another story – very blustery – but all in all, it was nowhere near as bad as expected.
In the morning, we headed around to the boys – who were getting ready at Gen & Gav’s newly purchased house. Because wedding planning isn’t enough by itself.. a month out, they added a new list of jobs to their lives! But – when we saw the gorgeous little property tucked out in the Waitakere bush – we could tell it must have been an opportunity too good to pass up.
Around the house was evidence of this mixture of wedding DIY plus being new homeowners…
The boys liked this shot of the backs of their singlets… it meant that they could keep watching the cricket!
We headed around to catch up with the girls – where it was lovely to also see Leigh – Gen’s bridesmaid who was one of our brides just over a year ago 🙂
Gen had been telling us about her fairytale princess wedding dress… and we were excited to get in & check it out. I loved that inside, it actually has the ‘Disney’ logo – the official Snow White wedding gown.
Gen’s excitement was evident as soon as we arrived. From the minute we walked in the door (and 2 hours before we needed to leave for the ceremony!) – Gen was asking us …. “should I put my dress on now??” … “how about now?”…. we figured it would be mean to keep her waiting! And she looked stunning.
Genna is a teacher… and she was awesome to watch with the kids. From reading stories to being fed nutrigrain.
A quick demo on how to scatter petals … and then their gorgeous flowergirl picked them all up gently & put them back in – ready to practice again! Too cute.
This patch of sun streaming through the window was great to play with…
And we saw the chance to play with our lights and get this stunning shot while Gen danced & spun around the room – just stoked to be in her dress & about to head off and get married!
Out at Cassels, the guests had gathered together – and the ceremony was under way. Gavin & Genna wrote their own ceremony, vows, and everything – it was so personal & intimate.
When we write our wedding blog posts… we often choose to share the ‘wow’ shots – the ones where we’ve identified a cool location, carefully set up our lighting, and created something awesome. Many of those to come soon. But – for much of the day, we’re also shooting in a more candid style… capturing shots like these ones below. I love the little moments, and expressions on people’s faces.
Gavin & Genna had found a cool spot nearby that really captured the feeling of being out in the bush. Since they had just moved out into the area, having some photos in the bush was quite a special thing for them. As we left Cassels, it was pouring with rain … luckily it eased just in time!
We figured that this road was going to be pretty quiet – especially on a cold, windy day.
A few squeezes right onto the edges to let cars past was enough to let us know that were, in fact, wrong.
^^ We saw that, Gen!
It was SO windy up on top of the hill here, but the dramatic clouds, and view in the background, made it totally worthwhile!
While out location scouting locations – we happened across this awesome, Jurassic Park feeling, grove. It was perfect, and totally sheltered from the elements!
Back at Cassels for the reception, we managed to sneak them back outside after the meal – peeking through the ivy…
And a classic ‘Cassels’ photo… with our Perspectives twist.
The story doesn’t end there, though.
Gavin & Genna had made these cool wedding favours, involving a jar of baking ingredients, and a recipe (essentially, add butter to the contents of the jar, and bake!). We were lucky enough to get one each, too.
So just before writing up this sneak peek post… I put my baking skills (or lack thereof) into play.
They were delicious.
