Waikato Wedding Photographers – St. Andrew’s Cambridge – Kain + Monica
Kain and Monica's wedding was an incredible demonstration of the power of people to come together, and create something magical. Pretty much every part of the day had a major DIY element... from the dress, to the stationery, the decorations, the cake - you name it... someone had put their time & effort into making it. This story & collection of images only just scratches the surface... we hope you enjoy it!
Monica & Kain are one of the most amazingly in-love couples we’ve ever seen. Not only was their day filled with DIY elements that they (or their loved ones) had made… but there were so many sentimental & special aspects, so much thought put in – it was incredible.
We’ll try our best to do it justice by explaining some of the significance behind the images… but for many of them, we’ll just let the pictures speak for themselves. Make sure you click the ‘keep reading this post’ link to see the whole wedding.
Around at the boys place, the wedding day kicked off with some pool (during which Kain demonstrated that wedding nerves can be considered a legitimate excuse for missing shots)… and the celebration of “national crate day”.
Meanwhile, around at the girls, hair & makeup was in full swing… and the men were trying to figure out ‘how many people does it take to put ribbon on the wedding car’ ?
When Monica was 12 years old, her Oupa made this wooden jewellery box for her… which they had engraved & became the ring box for the wedding.
Monica told us everyone in South Africa wears these shoes… and she was dead set on having them for the wedding.
Unfortunately, they couldn’t find them in NZ. And her relatives in South Africa couldn’t find her size. So these were specially sourced, direct from the factory in SA – and then brought over to NZ!
Monica’s Mum made the wedding dress – yes, you read that correctly – MADE the dress (along with the cake, too!) – and it looked incredible 🙂
Monica secretly arranged these images of her mother, and her grandmother, on their own wedding days…. and incorporated them into her bouquet as a surprise 🙂
The ceremony was held at St. Andrew’s Church in Cambridge – Amber tagged along in the bridal car for the ride, and some cool shots on the way to the church.
On the way from the church to their reception at the Don Rowlands Centre on Lake Karapiro, we made a couple of detours.
Monica made everything for the reception – the wooden planter boxes on the table, the hessian table runners, the bunting – so much love & care had gone into it, and it was exciting to photograph the finished product all together!
The evening finished up with an amazing sparkler exit – we joined Monica & Kain in the shower of sparks as we ran back through the tunnel of guests – and they headed off into the night 🙂
If you’ve enjoyed this little story of Monica & Kain’s wedding day… let them (and us!) know – by leaving a comment in the box below 🙂
