Megan + Kohu live in Australia – but chose to come back to Kohu’s hometown in the Coromandel for their wedding day.
Sleepy little Kuaotunu is a pretty small town… there’s a fire station, a few shops… and a beautiful historic old town hall.
Luckily.
Megan & Kohu planned a beautiful beachside ceremony, followed by outdoor lounging around the house they’d booked, and an evening partying away under the canopy of the marquee. What they hadn’t counted on, was yet another of the tropical storms rolling across New Zealand in February – bringing rain, rain, and more rain.
The night before the wedding – a last minute call was made. The marquee was proving too wet, and too cramped with the sides down. So in the morning, they would ferry everything out of the marquee and set up the reception in the Kuaotunu town hall.
It was literally a wedding put together on the morning of the day. Everyone pitched in, at one stage there would have been nearly 15 people carrying tables, mopping floors, hanging fairy lights, and doing a complete venue setup.
It all came together magically. Instead of a morning relaxing and being pampered, Megan & Kohu ended up spending the morning pitching in together … and all the while, creating beautiful memories of a gorgeous day. It’s not what happens – it’s how we deal with it!
Megan and her family are from Ireland, and it was cool to have many people make the 30 hour trip from the other side of the world – to see that even on a stormy, wet, windy day – New Zealand is a stunning country. We headed out after the ceremony for a few stormy shots on the beach, complete with totally windswept hair and rain misting across the horizon… and it looks stunning.
