Hi guys,
It was a gorgeous January summer day when we caught up with Darren & Emma – who were married at the Wilson Home grounds in Takapuna, and then had their reception at McHughs restaurant in Cheltenham Beach.
When we were planning the schedule for the day, we asked what was most important for them – with the answer being that they have a cruisy, relaxed day with their friends.
Perfect.
On arriving to do the getting ready shots, both Darren & Emma were there at the house. They weren’t worried about orchestrating a ‘first look’ … instead, preferring to spend the morning with the bridal party together – chilling out & have a good time.
This was awesome for us, as we just floated around, and captured shots of what was going on at each time of the day.
Here’s a little sneak peek of what we saw.
The boys had their shirts custom tailored… and – while we were shooting some gorgeous shots of Emma’s dress we thought hey – ‘why not give the shirts the same treatment!’

Give us cigars to play with – and you can ensure we’ll get all geeky with lighting…

We headed out to get some shots with the bridal party – which meant that after the ceremony, Darren & Emma could just relax with the guests & head straight off to the reception.
Shooting in the midday sun is a struggle in any circumstances – so we made sure we had plenty of powerful lights to overpower the sun, and create the light exactly how WE wanted it … forget nature!

Darren & Emma’s little daughter woke up from her sleep, and Poppa brought her down to the beach to meet up with us & the bridal party. Within 2 minutes – she was into her own little ‘trash the dress’ shoot…

By the time of the ceremony, Poppa had managed to wash & dry the dress – it was like nothing had ever happened!

This tree has the most amazing gnarled trunk & roots… made for a cool background!

We finished up our location photos with some cool skylines…

Down at Wilson Home – the boys arrived in style..

While we waited for the ceremony under the shade of the trees, about 5 tui overhead gave a performance. As long as you didn’t stand directly underneath them, it was awesome!

The setup.

Ohhhh… you’re having a ceremony? Nah it’s cool – I prefer to just keep playing in this fountain!

As the guests made their way down to McHughs after the ceremony, we had a little bit of time to kill, to allow everyone to arrive there first. The late afternoon light coming through the trees in the garden was perfect.

Down at McHughs – the reception was set up beautifully – I love the bridal table up on the little stage, where we don’t need to shoot back into the brightly backlit window!

Snapped.

Darren & Emma – thanks so much for having us along for the ride! We had a great time with you all! Enjoy this little preview of the photos – so many more to come
