Cornwall Park Wedding Photos – Josh & Amber’s sneak peek!

Hi guys :)

A few weeks ago, we had the pleasure of photographing Josh & Amber’s gorgeous wedding at Cornwall Park.

When we shot their engagement session, it was pouring with rain… so they were due for some nicer weather… and that’s just what they had! Having done an engagement shoot also meant that once it came time to do the location photos at the wedding, they were already pros!

In the morning… one of the cravats wasn’t quite square in the knot. So they decided.. “maybe, if we carefully untie it & memorize the steps, we can straighten it up”. When that failed… “OK – well… if we half untie this one, we can see how to put the other one back together”…. nope!

.

So while the groomsmen figured out how to retie two undone cravats – Josh (who was smart enough to leave his tie well alone!) got ready :)

Meanwhile – around at the girls… who were getting ready at Waipuna Lodge, where the wedding reception later took place….

Because the entire floor of the hotel was taken up by their guests – and it was around hotel breakfast time – we would have been spotted if we ventured outside the room! So we utilized every corner & angle of the suite…

If we designed hotel rooms… they’d probably be full of lighting like this! Lucky for most guests that use hotels for things other than wedding photos – we don’t! Instead, we bring our own lights along :)

Just before we headed downstairs – Amber’s dad came in and saw her…

Josh & Amber decided to do their bridal party photos before the ceremony, to make timelines afterwards work better. But – they didn’t want their parents to miss out on the moment when they see each other for the first time. So – rather than doing a ‘first look’ with just the two of them… Josh was waiting with his parents, and Amber’s mum – as Amber & her dad walked in to meet them. It was a really sweet & beautiful moment.

After Josh & Amber had their own little private moment together, we had a few shots with the bridal party around Waipuna…

Then – it was off to Cornwall Park – which was where the ceremony would take place later on. We made sure to choose spots where they wouldn’t be too ‘on display’ to any guests arriving early!

I love that right in the middle of downtown Auckland – you can still look like you’re lost in a field, in the middle of nowhere.

I love the roots of this tree – how it just encapsulates them! Josh & Amber do a fantastic job of making it look comfortable, too :)

We headed up to check out the view back across Auckland…

It hadn’t really seemed hot yet (even though we’d been in the sun right through the middle of the day) – but once we got down to the memorial steps, it was really melting!

Luckily, Josh & Amber were thoughtful enough to provide parasols for their guests – and they had some shade from umbrellas.

Looking back towards the little sea of parasols!

One really cool thing that they did was provide a little ‘tea party’ for the grandparents – under the ceremony umbrellas – complete with bikkies, cups of tea, etc. Unfortunately, the combination of dark shade + bright sunshine in behind meant a total re-arrange to get this ‘tea party’ photo – but everyone was more than gracious!

Josh, Amber, and their guests headed back to Waipuna to enjoy the reception… and we headed home to nurse our sunburn and upload their beautiful images… of which these ones are only a tiny taster :)

Auckland Wedding Photographers – Pearce & Waione’s sneak peek!

Hi guys!

A couple of weeks back, we had the pleasure of photographing Pearce & Waione’s beautiful wedding ceremony at The Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Khyber Pass… followed by their reception at Okahu.

When we arrived in the morning, there was barely a cloud in the sky – it was an amazing day. Which is all the more stunning, considering that the day before… the backyard at the boys’ place was completely underwater with a crazy storm!

Pearce admitted that there were definitely some nervous moments as they crossed their fingers for good weather tomorrow. Prayers answered!

Around at SkyCity hotel, we caught up with Waione & her bridesmaids… who each had these cool different coloured ribbons to fasten their shoes…

^ but more on that, later.

I love this next shot. Is that not the cutest, most genuine smile ever!

The church was pretty spectacular inside! We weren’t quite the first ones in there – but near enough :)

The boys made their way nervously to the front… the guests filed in…. and we were ready to roll. At this stage, I’m tucked away up the front of the aisle, ready to catch Waione and her Dad as they walk in… while Amber is outside – capturing the side of things the guests don’t see while they wait…

I love how stoked both Pearce & Waione are as they look at each other.

Our first photo location was literally right across the road. But before heading across… we had to quickly get this shot on the left:

Spot the difference from the earlier shots shot… Waione has a ‘something blue’ ribbon addition to her shoes, too :)

We couldn’t resist the temptation to bring the lights out here… I love the shadow that is cast on the wall, too.

For our next stop, we headed up Mount Eden. The day before, when we did our final location scout – we couldn’t see anything from the summit – just rain clouds everywhere. Lightning, thunder – the works. Fast forward 24 hours… and we were blessed with this.

I like the view back down to the harbour bridge at the bottom of this one:

Super wide:

As we walked back across to the cars.. we were approached by some tourists that wanted to get a photo. Pearce & Waione were so gracious, and even put on a pose & smile for them! World famous in… somewhere?

As the reception was at Okahu, we figured we’d finish up with a few shots down on the beach at Kohimarama. As we crawled through endless stop-start traffic, and saw how packed the beaches were.. we tried to figure out if there was some event or concert on the beach that day. In the end – I think the conclusion was that it was the first sunny weekend day in the last month, and people were just making the most of it!

This is the setting for the reception at Okahu – perfectly perched over the water…

As they entered the reception room, they were called in with a karanga.. and welcomed with a haka. As wedding photographers, it isn’t something we see every day – but it makes us super proud to call Aotearoa our home.

Everyone took their seats, and looked out the windows to this:

As the sun dipped behind the city, the speeches began…

Pearce was given a childhood bike back from his dad… and the room was treated to a spine-tingling ‘a cappella’ performance.

Having seen some awesome cultural elements already – we were also treated to a Cook Islands performance group, to honour Pearce’s Cook Island heritage.
Having spent a good amount of time in Raro over the last few years.. seeing this gave Amber & I such a longing to be back on the Rock! Looking forward to April :)

It was funny that, after having been up on the dancefloor participating in the cultural group’s performance for the last 15 minutes, that the next event was the ‘first’ dance!

We had been scoping out these fairy lights all night… and there was no way we could go home without convincing Pearce & Waione to come over for one last shot!
