Tropical Fiji Island Resort – Vomo Island Resort

The Vomo Films are here! This is the first of several films we produced for them. Keep checking back here in the days to come as more films go live!

I remember the first night we arrived on the island. I was grinning ear to ear. This place really will blow you away. The staff are the happiest people you could know. They make it a place you just never want to leave! The island’s a perfect size too. Not to big that it becomes im-personal and not to small that you can’t explore and find your own private beach! This really is a tropical island paradise.

It was a dream job for us too. We stayed on the island for 8 nights filming a mixture of island highlights and time-lapse footage. Despite what it might look like we actually worked pretty hard to get it all done. But we had a blast doing it. Our only mistake … when you go to the back of the island, take a bottle of water with you!
We created a couple of films while we were on the island. This is the Official Vomo Promotional Film. I hope you like it!

Auckland Wedding Videographer – Sam + Aimee’s Wedding Film

Update:

Along with the highlights film couples can get a longer “feature film” edit of the wedding day. This film digs a bit deeper than the highlights and finds the heart behind a wedding day.

I’m a bit of a romantic! so for me the ceremony is always an enjoyable section to edit together. Its a time when the couple get to share their personal vows and promises to each other. It’s publicly declaring the love that’s in their heart and promising to honor their spoken word for the rest of their life. To me that’s one of the most emotionally powerful things a human can share with another.

So here’s Sam and Aimee’s ceremony as part of their feature edit. I hope it moves you just a bit!

***********************************************

… “the other side of the bombays”…

Sam’s from Auckland, Amiee’s from the Waikato. They met through work as Sam took a job at the Novotel in Hamilton City. Right next to the Ibis where Aimee works! … “and the rest they say is history” … and a lot of Auckland-Hamilton jokes!

They got married on Aimee’s farm. So it was fun to see all the decorations and preps that went on the morning of the wedding. For me two things stood out at this wedding. Aimee’s laugh (which Sam warned me about!) and Sam’s patient wait to see Aimee as she walked up the aisle. (Which by the way is a pretty cool edit of its own which you’ll see soon!)

But for now, heres Sam and Aimee’s highlights. – Jared.

Brisbane Wedding Photos – Stace & Danielle’s sneak peek!

Hi guys :)

A few weeks ago, Holly, Amber, and I headed over to Brisbane, for a very special wedding – Amber’s little brother Stace was marrying his gorgeous Aussie bride – Danielle.

We had the privilege of photographing their day… here’s a little peek at what we saw.

Amber & Holly spent the night before the wedding at the hotel with the girls, while I stayed with the guys. We were in separate places, but both right on the Brisbane river, and both at least 25 floors up… here’s what we went to sleep / woke up to. Love the morning mist around the buildings!

Brisbane Wedding Photos

In the morning, all the boys were treated to a cut-throat shave – Stace did very well to look relaxed (I know I was worried about having my neck sliced open!).

Brisbane Wedding Photos

Danielle had the most incredible teal coloured dress. No-one knew it wasn’t going to be white – not even her bridesmaids. The peacock shoes matched perfectly!

Meanwhile – the boys threaded their black shoes with teal laces.

This next shot sums up the evening at the boys hotel pretty well…

I’m always amazed at how alike Amber & I think when we’re photographing / looking for locations. We didn’t discuss anything about these shots – and didn’t see one another from the night before the wedding until we both arrived at the ceremony. Our shots are so alike that we decided to blog the boys & girls preparations all mixed together, so you really get the sense of what was going on at the same time!

The ceremony was held at Roma Street Parklands – which is a beautiful garden area nestled almost in the city center. The boys headed down in time to greet the guests arriving.

The girls arrived in style.

Holly & I photographed the ceremony – as Amber had decided she just wanted to watch (and cry!). I picked on her too… but I’m not allowed to blog any of those photos!

Stace & Danielle wrote their own ceremony (not their own vows, their own ceremony) – and it was incredible. There weren’t many dry eyes around.

The wedding rings were passed around throughout the guests, giving everyone the chance to bestow their blessings.

Among the many guest activities post-ceremony… cupcake decorating! Stace & Danielle had organized a bunch of plain iced cupcakes, and multiple decorations in their wedding colours. Everyone had a great time creating their own custom design – towards the end of this post you’ll see the finished result!

One of the things we’re really big on at weddings is making sure we do justice to the family / group photos. Usually, after a few combinations, the bride & groom are itching to head out and start playing with the fun arty shots.. as are we! Having our own families in the photos just reinforced to us how important these photos are, and why it’s worth doing them properly.

Brisbane Wedding Photos

We went for a wander around the grounds of Roma St Parklands with the bridal party, where we found some cool jungle-y looking spots.

Anyone who has even been photographed by us will know that when we say “OK guys, last photo, then we’re off”… it isn’t always true. As we walked back to the cars, we kept finding these great patches of light. “Oohhhhh hang on, wait, go back – just a couple of quick shots here”. And here. And here.

We were lucky enough to spend a good part of our week in Brissy being ferried around in Alan’s awesome Ford Customline. Here’s the proud man with his daughter & new son-in-law.

Brisbane Wedding Photos

Amber & I spent a good 4 hours on Thursday before the wedding criss-crossing all through Brisbane, on the lookout for potential photo locations. We found these shiny buildings – perfect for reflections.

As we drove past these tree roots on our scouting trip, we decided to go back around the block (easier said than done!) for a second look. We loved the way the light falls off on the edges, making a cool natural vignette. Unfortunately, it meant a precarious shuffle along a ledge, next to a busy road, and then cars whipping past as we photographed. Stace & Danielle were up for anything – so off we went!

Our final stop was down by the river, looking back at the Brisbane skyline reflected in the water. It was lucky we bought all our lighting equipment over to Aussie – as the twilight was so short – sunny one minute, dark the next!

We headed back to the reception (Amber, myself, Holly, Stace, Danielle, all of our camera gear… in our hired Nissan Micra. Awesome.)

Danielle is an incredible dancer (as in, used to teach dance) – and their first dance was so impressive!

The bouquet and garter toss saw some competitive catching coming to the fore – Tom even managed to dive across the floor to claim his prize!

For one of the final shots of the night, I was keen to get some cool backlit cigar shots with the boys. I think I turned them all green by continually demanding ‘more smoke! more smoke!’ -  a few splutters as a lungful was accidentally sucked down!

Brisbane Wedding Photos

We had the most amazing trip. Danielle’s family were beyond awesome hosts, and the weather was perfect! After the wedding finished we partied up at the groomsmen’s hotel until the morning (luckily there are no pictures of that!) – and all felt much worse for wear the next day!

Stace – congrats little bro. You’re an amazing brother, friend, and all around great person. Welcome to the family Danielle (officially, it feels like you’ve been family right from the start!). You are a perfect couple – and we had so much fun with you on your wedding day.

Auckland Trash the Dress photos – Stuart & Sandra’s encore shoot!

Hi guys :)

A few weeks back, we caught up with Stuart & Sandra for an ‘encore’ photo session.

We had the pleasure of photographing Sandra last year during our Auckland Bride Parade photo shoot – so it was lovely to get the chance to capture some cool images with her husband, too!

They have a cool Mini – which we managed to work into the shots throughout the day.

Here’s a few of our favs from the session. Enjoy.

We were treated to a pretty spectacular sunset, too!

One of Stuart’s passions is vintage aeroplanes. We couldn’t shoot at an airfield – but the next best thing was being able to mix the mini, and a hangar, into this – the last frame of the night – combining all the elements.

Wedding Photo Reshoot – Jason & Heather’s Ohope wedding .. take 2!

Hey guys!

It makes us sad when we hear about people who have had their wedding… waited with anticipation for their photos back from the photographer… and are really disappointed with them.

This was the case for Jason & Heather – who were married in Ohope earlier this year.

They got in touch with us, and organized a photo shoot with Perspectives – we traveled down from Auckland to Ohope, and met up with them & their bridal party for a super fun afternoon. We even were lucky enough to be shooting on the day of the ‘super moon’ – so the last few shots feature that.

Here’s a little sneak peek of what we captured for them. Even though it isn’t the actual wedding day – we are stoked to be able to give them some shots that show off how gorgeous they really are.

Enjoy :)

Crown Beach Resort Rarotonga wedding photos – Jeff & Marie’s sneak peek!

Hi guys,

I can’t believe it was only a couple of weeks ago that we were relaxing in the sun in Raro… the bitter cold here in Auckland at the moment makes it seem a lifetime ago.

Jeff & Marie had their wedding at the stunning Crown Beach resort, on one of the sunniest days of that week. Talk about being blessed with perfect weather.

In the morning, we headed around to Marie’s room – where one of the first things we saw was this cool poster, designed by a friend of theirs. We knew right away – this was going to be a cruisy, relaxed day with the emphasis in the right places!

Auckland Wedding Videographer – Phillip + Kathryn’s Wedding Video

Getting married in a grandstand. How cool is that! And the wedding day definitely had their stamp on it too.

As it happens they guys have it pretty easy in the morning so Phillip took the boys out for a last hurrah before saying the all important “i do’s”. So golf and go karts it was! Mat had a blast filming that!

.. and I got to hang out with the girls! We had fun. And I have to say (and this is a bit weird coming from a guy) but Kathryn’s flowers were actually amazing! I’ve filmed many weddings and these flowers are right up there. So it’s time for a plug. Miss Daisy Flower Shop

Both Phillip and Kathryn were a blast to be around. They are both full of life and so positive to everyone around them. It was great to see.

So here’s the film. Enjoy.

Auckland Wedding Videographer – Jeremy + Katie’s Wedding Video

Update:  More Footage!

Part of the service that I offer is to provide a Feature Film to couples.  This film is more in-depth than the Highlights reel, shows more complete coverage and tells a deeper story of their wedding day.
Here’s Jeremy and Katies Feature Film.  So get cosy, click the HD button and enjoy!

*************************

Jeremy and Katie live in Australia and both work in hospitality industry. They came back to New Zealand to get married and choose The Pear Tree up in Kerikeri as the place to wed mainly because of the great food they serve!  So I knew food and wine were going to feature in their film pretty early on.

Sometimes I feel there’s two set’s of vows on a wedding day. One at the ceremony and one during the speeches. Both Jeremy and Katie put thought and time into what they wanted to say to each other. It’s one of the only times for a couple to say publicly how much they mean to each other, so it was really nice to be able to include this in their film as it unfolded too.

We had a blast filming it and it was defiantly worth the trip up north!

This film was in a way tricky to bring together. There were so many things I wanted to say and moods I wanted to convey. After a couple of late nights, things started to fit and I found the perfect song to glue it all together. I decided not to tell their story through the chronological order of what happened on the day but instead through two themes that arose on the day.

The first half of the film conveys the weight and importance that getting married brings. From the anticipation and nervousness that Jeremy showed to the significance of marriage that the celebrant spoke of.

The second half of the film highlights the celebrations, community, food and wine that was enjoyed on the day. The words that both Jeremy and Katie spoke really highlighted the love each has for one other. Their speeches really help to tie the whole film together too!

Anyway, I hope you enjoy watching it!  Feel free to comment below – Jared.

Sarnia Park Wedding Photos – Scott & Ashleigh’s sneak peek!

Hi guys!

A couple of weeks ago, we headed down to Cambridge, to photograph Scott & Ashleigh’s stunning autumn wedding at Sarnia Park.

Here’s a little glimpse at how the day unfolded.

We’ve seen cufflinks. Hip flasks. Bottle Openers. But – in what takes the cake for one of the coolest groomsman’s presents ever – Scott gifted his boys a Leatherman multi tool… awesome!

We headed over to Cambridge, where Ashleigh & her bridesmaids had their hair & makeup done in a cute little B&B near lake Karapiro.

Ashleigh’s bridesmaids were awesome – they even made sure they knew their aisle ‘walk times’ down to the second, in sync with the song!

Out at Sarnia Park, the bridal suite provided a gorgeous backdrop for Ashleigh to get into her stunning Jane Yeh wedding gown, and get a few beautiful bridal shots before the ceremony kicked off.

The ceremony was on the Croquet Lawn – which has a perfect little pagola, and some great angles to shoot too. It’s one of our fav spots at Sarnia Park! Their ceremony was beautiful. Very emotional, and there weren’t many dry eyes throughout the entire group of guests.

Next stop was one of our favourite locations, just up the road. Scott & Ashleigh met one another through a shared love of competitive cycling – so it was perfectly fitting that they’d managed to find this cool vintage bike, which we worked into a few images.

Back at Sarnia Park – we arrived for the afternoon reception. It was a relaxed, intimate affair, which was hosted in the main lodge – which meant they had the chance to make an awesome entrance down the staircase! We made certain to document it from all angles :)

This was followed by an impressive first dance on the ballroom floor…

Shortly afterwards, we ducked back outside for 30 minutes of late afternoon photos. We were racing the sunlight, and had to move spots a few times as the shadows advanced & steadily ate the last rays of light. Once the sun dipped once & truly below the horizon, we were treated to an awesome sunset – so we quickly unpacked our lighting setup from the car to make the most of it!

Our fabulous assistant Holly never ceases to amaze. While we were setting up the lights, she was capturing this gorgeous silhouette shot.

These next two shots are a great example of how different lens choices affect a photo. Shot within seconds of one another, the first is a wide angle lens which emphasizes the sky, clouds, and overall scene. You can see the line of trees, tiny in the distance. The second shot uses a zoom lens to compress the background, and makes the most of those trees as a structural element. /end photography geekiness.
