The Wharf wedding photos – Lee & Sarah’s sneak peek!

Hi guys,

The other day, we had the pleasure of photographing Lee & Sarah’s gorgeous wedding, with their ceremony at St. Matthew in the City, and reception at The Wharf.
It was a super fun day, with some really cool urban shots around town.

Our morning began over at the Grand Chancellor, where the boys were ready to go – looking very suave in the suits :)

Gracehill Kumeu wedding photos – Jono & Yvonne’s sneak peek!

Hi guys,

On Saturday, we headed out to photograph Jono & Yvonne’s wedding – at the Avondale Reformed Church, and then on to Gracehill Vineyard in Kumeu, for their reception.

Our morning began around at the boys house, where we found Jono & his groomsmen ready to roll.

This was shot with some off-camera flash down at the bottom of the stairs, giving it that nice punchy lighting effect. Love the suave tails on the morning suit that Jono was wearing :)

We spied a tree full of ‘autumn’ … so headed across to the next-door neighbours backyard to make the most of it…

Auckland Bride Parade – 2011 Perspectives Photography

Hi guys,

On Sunday, we had the pleasure of photographing 9 gorgeous brides, all in one shoot.

It was our ‘Bride Parade’ – which is fast becoming an annual event that is eagerly anticipated – places for this one booked up within 3 hours of it being announced!

Every year, we scout out for the perfect location, and this time – it was ‘Casabella’ – which is the property owned by Amber’s parents, Peta & Ian Hardley. They were so gracious & accommodating with us borrowing their power, taking over one end of the house with dresses, makeup, and brides – and the place looked stunning. Peta is a fantastic wedding celebrant too – and the property is available for people to have their wedding ceremony at… keep this in mind!

Thanks also to Mathew Nimmo – who assisted us during the shoot, making sure Amber didn’t fall off the ladder, holding reflectors, lights, and all sorts – he was invaluable.

Jo-Ann from Best Blooms flowers in Henderson donated her time & expertise – providing 4 stunning bouquets for the shoot, thanks Jo!

And Ashlee & Kate from Beautified did an AMAZING job with the hair & makeup – all of the brides looked perfect.

It was a super long day (we started setting up at 8am and it was about 10pm by the time we finished packing up) – so a big thanks also to all the girls who were patient & into it all day.

Right. What you’ve all been waiting for….

Auckland Grand Wedding Show at Skycity 2011

Hi guys,

Introducing… us.

Fiona

(except I don’t have the beard any more. Amber is happy about that.)

We like taking photos.

We like weddings. In fact – here’s what we LOVE about weddings

We might be still available on your date.

We have possibly shot at your venue before, too – but we love getting to shoot for the first time at new venues, as it’s a totally fresh look at things!

No, we don’t have a travel charge for anywhere around Auckland – but yes, for a small fee we’ll go anywhere in the world.

Our style? – you ask. hmmm. Dramatic. ‘Directed candid’… we want things to look natural, but we’ll also direct you to make sure we’re bringing out the absolute best in you. We love lighting, and attention to detail.

Deposit? $500.

If you hadn’t guessed yet, we’re not going to be at the wedding show. Or any of the wedding shows.
You won’t find our ads in magazines, either.

But you will find nearly 200 totally stoked past brides & grooms, out there around the world (as many of our clients come from overseas) who will happily tell you about us.

You can also scroll through our blog – and see that we can consistently deliver the goods, every single wedding, every time. No matter the weather, the light, the schedule.

You can touch base with us on Facebook. You can follow us on Twitter.

And – you can come & meet with us yourself, minus all the wedding show hustle & bustle, at our studio: where there are couches, coffee, Queensberrys, and not a million other people!

If you’d like to arrange a time to chat about your wedding day, flick us an email – and we can arrange a time.

Look forward to meeting you!

Isaac & Amber.

Sarnia Park wedding photos – Jason & Michelle’s sneak peek!

Hi guys,

On Saturday, we headed down to Otorohanga for Michelle & Jason’s wedding… which was held in Michelle’s family church, and then reception at Sarnia Park in Cambridge.

We left Auckland early, and headed down to Hamilton, where we caught up with Jason & his best man, Will.
They were all ready to go when we arrived (even though it was like 4 hours before the wedding) – awesome!

Sarnia Park Wedding Photos

Both Jason & Will are in the NZ Navy, so they’re no strangers to formal dress!

Sarnia Park Wedding Photos

Sarnia Park Wedding Photos

We headed outdoors for a few final shots…

Sarnia Park Wedding Photos

Then it was off to Otorohanga, where we arrived at Michelle’s parents home – to find everyone similarly organized – woohoo! It’s rare that we actually *get* the time for pre-ceremony photos that we suggest.. so the times that we do, it’s always very exciting!

When we walked into the house, it was like a collection of our favourite vendors! Michelle’s hair was being finished off by the mobile team from Ktizo, the gorgeous bouquets had been delivered by Karen, Rachel from Ruby Rouge had just finished the makeup, and Michelle’s stunning Anna Schimmel wedding gown was hanging up, waiting to be photographed :)

Sarnia Park Wedding Photos

The gown had a layer of delicate lace covering it, and was topped off with this gold broach from Michelle’s grandmother. It was exquisite.

Then, it was time to get into it! Michelle & her bridesmaid, Christina, needed no encouragement to get into their dresses (Christina’s was a stunning Armani dress, I think Amber wanted to steal it :P).

Sarnia Park Wedding Photos

Time for a couple of last shots…

Sarnia Park Wedding Photos

And then it was time for us to head down to the church (not even needing to rush, thanks to things running to schedule in the morning!).
It was a cute little Catholic church – and I love the fact that Michelle’s grandparents, and parents, were also married in the same church. In fact, later on, we took a photograph with all 6 of them in front of the church, which matches the photos taken many years ago. So cool.

Michelle arrived – and it was time to go.

Sarnia Park Wedding Photos

Jason when he saw Michelle for the first time..

Sarnia Park Wedding Photos

When we’re shooting inside a small church, especially if the priest has requested that no-one take photos, we’re very aware of not being ‘shutter happy’ and firing away incessantly – as the shutters are quite loud in a small space. So… instead, we wait for the absolute key moments, and take one shot, making it count.

The funny side of this is, that Amber & I often interpret the exact same key moment – resulting in ‘camera jinx’… where we hear each other’s shutters go at the exact same moment. It happened so many times today, we had a little giggle afterwards. Things like when someone is doing a reading – there is a point where they glance up & make eye contact with the congregation. **double click**. Then the priest raises his hand to bless the rings. **double click**. Or – during the sermon… Jason & Michelle take a quick glance at one another and a smile. **double click**. Here’s one of those moments, from each of our cameras. This took about half a second.. and we each took only one frame.

Sarnia Park Wedding Photos

Sarnia Park Wedding Photos

During the vows, there were a few tears..

Sarnia Park Wedding Photos

And a perfect first kiss…

Sarnia Park Wedding Photos

Usually, we don’t tend to blog signing shots, as they’re often not all that ‘interesting’. But something about these two images I just love. Adding to the cool factor, is that Jason MADE the candle holder – he’s fantastic with wrought iron – and actually made an awesome sign for us at our studio.

Sarnia Park Wedding Photos

Sarnia Park Wedding Photos

After the ceremony, as Jason & Michelle walked out of the church, their friend – who had come all the way from Paraguay for the wedding – had some rice to throw.. I love the way the rice has arched up to mirror the doorway of the church.

Sarnia Park Wedding Photos

There were hugs. There were kisses. We took photos. There were family group shots. We took more photos. But we’ll save those for another day… because you know you all want to see what came next.

We drove over to Cambridge (it’s quite surreal having a 45 minute drive between ceremony & the location shots… it felt like we had only just arrived for the day when we got to Sarnia Park, not like we’d already been shooting for 5 hours!

First stop – Lake Karapiro.

And then another cool spot we found…

The above shots were taken in a light overcast… and then… the sun came out. Which was what we’d been waiting for.

Content with some amazing shots (but wanting to stay and shoot there forever) – we headed back to Sarnia Park.
When we arrived, Amber headed over to photograph the reception setup (it’s always nice to do these things before the room is filled up with all the guests) – and we learned that Jason had also made each & every one of the table centerpieces from wrought iron. So cool. Michelle’s touch was seen throughout the whole room – it looked perfect. But it was definitely cool to see some ‘DIY’ that the groom had supplied!

Sarnia Park Wedding Photos

We headed across to collect their bridal hamper & drinks, and the 4 of them had a much deserved time out, a nibble, and some drinks. A few quick shots too…

Sarnia Park Wedding Photos

Sarnia Park Wedding Photos

The light was fading, and in the time left, Michelle & Jason wanted to have a practice of their first dance (which they’d had some professional lessons for). It looked superb (and I later heard from Michelle that the real thing went without a hitch!).

It was a good excuse for us to get the lights out & have a play with some cool lighting.

Sarnia Park Wedding Photos

Then, just before the reception began, we headed over for a couple of shots under the lamps – a fittingly soft & romantic way to round off the photos.

Thank you both so much for having us along to share a part in your special day – we had so much fun with you all, and are so stoked to have been entrusted with capturing these memories.
Enjoy the photos – so many more awesome ones to come!

Huka Resort Taupo Wedding Photos – Grant & Patsy’s sneak peek!

Hi guys,

Last Saturday, we headed down to Taupo, where we photographed Grant & Patsy’s gorgeous wedding at Huka Resort.

In the morning, we headed around to the boys place – this shot of the rings pretty well sums up the difficult role the guys have to play on a wedding day…

Huka Resort Taupo wedding photos

This is the cat which randomly wandered into the guys villa 2 days prior… curled up on the bed… and never left! You can tell by his expression that he loves having his photo taken…

We then headed around to the girls place – where Patsy & bridesmaids were finishing up their makeup. We found a cool reflection for Patsy’s gorgeous wedding dress…

Huka Resort Taupo wedding photos

When we’re driving to weddings, Amber, Holly & I often have guessing games as to what colour the bridesmaids dresses will be. I don’t think brown has ever been mooted as an option… so it was a refreshing surprise to see these stunning bridesmaids dresses, and the colour was amazing. It looked so cool later in the day too, when we shot in some autumn-y locations.

Huka Resort Taupo wedding photos

The hallway had a curve in it. Which was cool.

Huka Resort Taupo wedding photos

We had time for a couple of quick shots with Patsy & her bridesmaids altogether..

Huka Resort Taupo wedding photos

And then it was off to Huka Resort chapel – where their guests were eagerly awaiting the arrival.

Beautiful first kiss.

After the ceremony, we took a couple of shots with their super cute flowergirl – who wasn’t coming along on the location photos with the bridal party.

Then we were off – heading first down to a little wharf in Acacia Bay. By this stage, the wind had picked up and it was getting really chilly – well done to everyone for not showing it!!

Huka Resort Taupo wedding photos

We had to queue for a while to get the wharf free of people launching / bringing in their boats – but eventually there was a gap…

It was amazing, seeing the differing colours in the backgrounds – on the lakeside were these lovely autumn willow trees, and then a tiny variation towards the shore yielded lush green.

And then back to autumn.

Huka Resort Taupo wedding photos

Second stop – on our way back towards Huka… a little roadside. We got some cool walking shots..

Huka Resort Taupo wedding photos

And also this cool fallen log – for which we set up the lights to make for some dramatic skies..

Huka Resort Taupo wedding photos

Huka Resort Taupo wedding photos

What we didn’t know about this location, though, is that apparently… people from Taupo like to dump their rubbish there. Groomsman Vaughan went for a mission and disappeared into the bushes. Everyone assumed he was off to attend to the call of nature.. and were fairly surprised when he came striding back to present Grant & Patsy with their very first wedding gifts.

It was time to head back, and on arriving at Huka Resort – we convinced Grant & Patsy to spend 5 minutes shooting this final location that we’d stumbled across in the morning. Conveniently, it was right next to an orchard, which had delicious red apples to keep the bridesmaids & groomsmen occupied!

The field was beautiful – swishy grass + autumn trees = win.

Vilagrad Wedding Photos – Lana & Ian’s sneak peek!

Hi guys,

Last Friday, we headed down to Hamilton to photograph Lana & Ian’s beautiful wedding at Vilagrad Winery.

Our day began around at the boys place – where Ian & his best man were donning their kilts…

Vilagrad Wedding Photos

It always amazes me when I see the intricacies of the traditional Scottish dress – the laces tied just so, the socks perfectly folded, knife tucked in… I’d never be able to remember it all!

Vilagrad Wedding Photos

Vilagrad Wedding Photos

We then headed out to the girls – who were getting ready at the on-site villa at Vilagrad. Denise from Spoilt Beauty was putting the finishing touches on makeup, and Lana was ready to get into her stunning Kate Dowman wedding gown.

Vilagrad Wedding Photos

We had time for a couple of shots outside..

Vilagrad Wedding Photos

And then it was time to head across for the ceremony. The piper began to play, and the flowergirls were eagerly awaiting their first glimpse of stunning Lana..

Vilagrad Wedding Photos

Vilagrad Wedding Photos

Vilagrad Wedding Photos

Their priest was fantastic – mixing a great sense of humour into the ceremony… and he also displayed a good knowledge of Scottish traditions, like the sealing of an agreement by drinking from the Quaich.

Vilagrad Wedding Photos

After the ceremony, we headed out with the bridal party for some photos around the place. Lana was keen for something a little more ‘grungy’ in some of the shots – which was great fun! We kicked off at this awesome old barn..

Vilagrad Wedding Photos

And we had a visit by the owner’s pet pig!! He came running across the fields to check out what was going on.. and quickly became interested in what was inside the chilly-bin..

Vilagrad Wedding Photos

Vilagrad Wedding Photos

On the other side of the barn was a lovely sweeping rise, where we were able to take advantage of the dramatic skies… (and on the way up the rise, Holly took this next shot).

Next stop was a cornfield that we found, with some beautiful golden backlight in the afternoon sun. Luckily it was still there – as the entire surrounding countryside was in full-on harvest mode!

Last stop on the tour was another field, with a dilapidated corrugated iron barn…

Vilagrad Wedding Photos

and a golden brown field of tussocky grass…

Vilagrad Wedding Photos

Vilagrad Wedding Photos

We love to fully utilize our time on the bridal party shoot… if Lana & Ian needed to walk from point A to point B… it became another option for a shot! This was once we’d finished in the field / barn – and needed to walk a few metres back down the driveway to the car.

Vilagrad Wedding Photos

We finished up our day with a couple of shots in the wine cellars at Vilagrad – we love shooting in there, and playing around with a bit of lighting.
