Ball Photos – Hamilton Boys’ High School – Sneak peek

Hey guys,

Last night, we photographed the HBHS school ball at the Verandah, by Hamilton Lake.

It was an awesome venue, and the ball committee did a great job coordinating the various parts of the evening, which came together without a hitch.

We had a cool fairy light backdrop to work with for the formal photos, and also took the chance to get a little experimental with some long exposure shots on the dancefloor – making the lights all swirly and just generally looking cool.

Make sure you also check out our Facebook page if you haven’t yet – once you “like” the page, you can also comment on, and tag, the photos there.

So here’s a little peek at how the photos are looking so far – more to come next week, so keep an eye out on Facebook.

Miss Saigon Hamilton 2010 – Theatre photos

On Monday night, we had the opportunity to work with the super talented cast & crew from Hamilton Musical Theatre.
The goal of the evening was to shoot images to go into the programme for the show.

As usual with anything in the graphic design world, things run on a super tight deadline – and I don’t envy Chris’ job of getting everything laid out & submitted for print by tomorrow!

So here we are, a day after shooting, with a full set of edited images out the door and off to be designed… and I can share a few with you all!

Be sure to head along and check out Miss Saigon – it’s playing at Founders Theatre, from the 3rd > 17th July.
It’s an awesome storyline, and we’ve seen the cast & crew in action… you’re in for a treat!
You can buy tickets here at Ticketek.

Here’s a little peek at what you might see inside the programme…

Plus a variety of many more – so to see the final shots that go in, you’ll need to be at the show!!

We’re super excited about going along – can’t wait to see the final thing in action… and the whole stage too, not just the little bit inside my viewfinder!

It’s gonna be awesome.

Be there.

Auckland engagement photos – Grant & Patsy

Yesterday morning, we caught up Grant & Patsy for a fun photo shoot around downtown Auckland.

We got some FANTASTIC shots – here’s a tiny taste of how they’re looking :)

More to come, after Grant & Patsy have had the chance to pop in to our studio and choose the ones they want.

Enjoy!

Isaac.

Auckland Wedding Photos – Hamish & Rachel’s sneak peek!

Hi guys,

On Saturday, we headed up to Auckland to photograph Hamish & Rachel’s wedding.

The day began cloudy – and cold! Luckily though, the rain held off, and we had some beautiful dramatic skies to play with… which we love!
It was perfectly timed, because the following day brought torrential rain that didn’t stop for hours!

We visited the boys first off, for a few shots…

Then it was around the the girls place… where there were some gorgeous details…

And Rachel was looking stunning!!

Down at the church, Amber got this great shot of Rachel being helped out of the car – I love it with a grainy black & white tone.

While I was wandering around shooting candids during the mix & mingling time after the ceremony.. I noticed the nanna’s, checking out Rachel’s ring. Love it.

We then headed off with the bridal party for some photos. The church where they were married is in Blockhouse Bay – so we headed down the road to French Bay in Titirangi, which was first stop for some photos.
The wind was coming in across the sea – and it was COLD.

Everyone did so well though – and no-one looks cold in the shots, which is the main thing!!

Shooting at French Bay was really special for Amber & I – because that’s where we were married three & a half years ago… and we had our photos there too. It was really cool to re-live some of those experiences, this time on the other end of the camera!

The daylight was quickly fading – and we still needed to make it out to Brigham Creek for the reception. So we bundled into the cars, and headed off.
On the way, we made a stop at a fantastic old shack that we had found about a week earlier while scouting out locations.

It’s times like this that I’m really grateful for the amount of lighting gear we bring along to every wedding. It makes us the butt of many jokes from our photographer friends, the way our car is packed to the roof all the time… but there’s no way we could have achieved these images without them!

We had so much fun with you all!

I’m sure that Samoa is much warmer than New Zealand at the moment :)

Enjoy the photos – and we’ll have more soon.

Rarotonga wedding photographer – Kiwi photographers in Rarotonga without airfares!!

Hey guys,

I’ll preface this post by saying that this is still VERY tentative – and more to test the waters and gauge interest.

Anyway – we’re considering basing ourselves in Rarotonga for most of July 2011 and August 2011 – to photograph weddings there.

This means that you can have some awesome kiwi photographers, without needing to pay the extra flights / accommodation cost of getting us over there – just our standard package rates.

If you are planning on getting married in Raro during this period, or you know someone that is – get in touch :)

As soon as we have a few people that are keen, we can go ahead with firming up the plans & schedules.

It’s an awesome opportunity that’s really a win / win … we get to spend a few months in gorgeous Raro – and you get to have us shoot your wedding, with no extra costs beyond the package rates. DEAL!

The Auckland Bride Parade – wedding photos en masse!

Hey guys,

Well… this has been a highly anticipated post – thanks to everyone for your patience!!

On a rainy Sunday just over a week ago, 10 brides arrived at a grungy workshop in West Auckland. There was grease on the floor, and puddles where the rain had crept through the roof.
We also had 3 fabulous makeup artists – thanks to Ashlee Kellett from Beautified, and her team, Lexie & Mandy. They donated their time free – and did an AMAZING job.

Basically, the idea of this shoot was to give the girls from the Weddings.co.nz bridal forum the chance to meet (or catch up with) one another, and wear their wedding dresses again.
It was great for us to get to meet everyone too – although there were a few familiar faces that you’ll also recognize from our blog, in Tamara and Jo.

We also had some great help during the day by the lovely Michelle (keep an eye out for her wedding on our blog in March 2011!) and also Jo from RockStar PR – who did a great job helping out with posing, moving lights around, and doing coffee runs!

Finally, thanks to Amber’s brother Tam – who did some great behind-the-scenes video on the day, and to our fab assistant Holly – as you’ll see looking through the shots, she took some great images!

The shoot went pretty much all day – with individuals for each girl, and then finishing up with some fun group shots at the end.

Here’s a look at what we came up with. It was an awesome shoot, and we had so much fun!!

Thanks to all the lovely ladies who gave up a Sunday to come & play with us :) Hope you like the results!!

First up, my own lovely wife Amber, who donned a dress for some shots:

And finally, Ashlee herself – the lady behind the looks! Thanks so much Ash for all your help putting this shoot together, couldn’t have done it without you!

Then we got everyone together for some group shots… starting off with a really cool one inside…

Then headed out the back of the workshop for a couple more… where the girls got their poses on!

And that’s nearly it!

But not quite…

This concluded the shoot, and the girls started heading off. Ashlee & Amber were keen to get a couple more shots, so we made a mission down the back of the workshop, crawled under some wreckage, and ended up in a huge pile of old tyres & wheels… which we put to good use!

So there you have it – a Bride Parade!

Stay tuned, because in about two months time, we have round two coming up – this time being shot in Christchurch!

Thanks for looking :) Leave us a comment to let us know what you think!!

Appeal For Catherine – get your tickets for the Charity Auction

Hey guys,

One of our brides from a while back – Dairne – is organizing an awesome appeal for her friend Catherine, who is battling cancer.

It’s being held at Sky City this Saturday evening – and we’re going to be there all night, taking photos of the event.

There is going to be a charity auction too – and one of the items up for grabs is a $750 photography package with us!

So flick an email through to Dairne, and see if there are still some tickets left! There are a heap of awesome items on auction.

Black tie dress – so take the chance to get all glammed up & come have a fun evening with us!

xoxo

Hamilton Car photos – Shaun & Becs

Hey guys,

Shaun & Rebecca are getting married later this year (and we’re looking forward to shooting their wedding at Sarnia Park!) – but last night, they had the chance for a little warm up run.

Shaun races BMX – and was keen for some shots with his car, and his bike. (and his girl!)

So we headed down to a grungy carpark in town last night (around 9.30pm) – and got cracking. It was a 3 light setup to get these images, which really makes the shots pop out from the background.

I’ve edited them a bit more heavily & gungy than I usually would, which I think really works for these shots.

It was heaps of fun – always good to step outside your comfort zone & try something new!

Enjoy.

Sarnia Park wedding photos – Blair & Louise’s sneak peek!

Hey guys,

On Saturday, we headed out to Sarnia Park in Cambridge, to photograph Blair & Louise’s wedding.
It’s our last wedding of the official “wedding season”… only 2 weddings over the next 4 months, now. It’s going to be strange not heading out once (or twice, or occasionally 3 times) every weekend to share people’s special days… but at least we got to farewell the season with a bang!

We had an awesome time with these guys – kicking off with some boys shots earlier in the day…

Blair had written a lovely card for Lousie, along with some flowers – and we delivered them out to Sarnia Park when we headed out for the girls shots.

Autumn weddings are just the best. It isn’t too hot. The colours in the trees look amazing. And you get beautiful afternoon light like this… at 4.30pm!
During the mid summer, this lovely warm light doesn’t arrive until 8pm or later… which is when we’re driving home, wistfully gazing out the car windows & saying “man, I wish we were only just starting the photos now!” So yes, we love autumn – and the light just got better & better!
