Auckland wedding photographers – Claire & Karl’s sneak peek!

Hi guys!

I’m writing this blog post on a plane – mid air on the way to Rarotonga. It has been a long night – yesterday, we had the immense pleasure of shooting Claire & Karl’s wedding -and I wanted to get the images loaded up & a few edited to share with you before we left!

Our day kicked off with photos of Karl and the boys. There had been a little stag night mayhem the week prior… resulting in us carefully shooting angles that didn’t show too much of Karl’s black eye!!

Bracu wedding photos

The weather had been terrible over the last few days… and on the morning of the wedding, things looked a bit better… the rain seemed to be holding off … we would wait & see.

Bracu wedding photos

Bracu wedding photos

Then it was around to the girls.. where things were remarkably relaxed & laid back. This flavour continued throughout the day – which made things so stress free & just plenty of fun!

I love that you can see the reflection of Claire having her makeup done in this dress shot.

Bracu wedding photos

Karl had surprised Claire by hiring some wedding cars – she had no idea what was coming to collect her… and when they arrived, she needed to choose between white & pink. Pink won.

Bracu wedding photos

Claire looked amazing in her dress, and the bouquet of red roses perfectly suited the look.

Bracu wedding photos

This next image (shot by Amber!) is totally unedited, exactly as it came out of the camera. Stunning.

Bracu wedding photos

We arrived out at the venue… and the rain started. Just a light showering, not enough to move things indoors.

Ironic:

Bracu wedding photos

Their ceremony was lovely – intimate & personal.

Bracu wedding photos

I love this shot – each of the bridesmaids trying to keep it together…

Two different views of a first kiss…

Bracu wedding photos

Bracu wedding photos

One of the most special things about our job is that we get to tell stories with images… it was these guys wedding anniversary on the same day.
Congratulations – and here’s to many more.

Bracu wedding photos

Bracu wedding photos

After the ceremony – there were plenty of hugs..

Bracu wedding photos

And then we had a whirlwind tour of the property, for some shots with the bridal party.

And it rained.

And it rained.

And it rained some more.

We began down at a little stream, which was sufficiently slippery now that the rocks were nice & wet..

Bracu wedding photos

But the rain got so heavy that even with the umbrellas, we needed to seek out some shelter.
The absolute best thing about shooting in the rain on this particular day – was that everyone just had a blast. No-one let the rain dampen their spirits, and it totally shines through in the shots.

Bracu wedding photos

Once under the trees, it was still wet, but much less so!

Bracu wedding photos

Bracu wedding photos

We then headed down the road with just Claire & Karl to Bracu, on the Simunovich Olive Estate, where the rain kindly eased up & stopped for us, and we were able to get some great shots!

Epic – is really the only word for this one.

Bracu wedding photos

Down in the olive grove, the light was prefect.

Bracu wedding photos

Just perfect.

Bracu wedding photos

Bracu wedding photos

Claire – as well as having one of the most stunning dresses we’ve seen – also had an amazing veil, which we made use of!

Bracu wedding photos

Elegant.

Bracu wedding photos

This shot just sums up the day for me – fun! We had such a great time just hanging out with these guys – such a gracious & genuinely nice couple.

Bracu wedding photos

It was then time to get back into the car, and race back for the reception & dinner… after which we headed off.. and I’m sure a great night was had by all.

Bracu wedding photos

Thank you both so much for having us along to document your day – we had so much fun, and I really think that the rain made for some special shots that you’ll be able to look back on & laugh at!

Can’t wait to share more with you soon.

Cassells Wedding Photos – Brendon & Erin’s sneak peek!

Hey guys,

On Saturday, Amber, Melissa, and I headed out to Cassells in Waitakere, where we had the pleasure of photographing Brendon & Erin’s wedding.

Our day began with some shots with the boys, in Te Atatu.

I loved these cufflinks – very fitting, when you see Brendon’s enthusiasm for Batman!

Cassells wedding photos

Cassells wedding photos

We then headed into town, where we found the girls getting ready @ the Duxton hotel.

With plenty of time up our sleeves, we were able to play with some fun lighting…

Out at Cassells, the guests had gathered down in the garden, and the ceremony was ready to go.

The persistent wind played games with Erin’s veil as she came down the aisle..

Cassells wedding photos

Cassells wedding photos

Erin & Brendon didn’t know this… but petals were secretly passed around the guests while they signed the register… and thrown as they walked back out the aisle

Cassells wedding photos

We had a few shots with the bridal party down at Cassells..

Cassells wedding photos

Cassells wedding photos

Then, we were supposed to get into the limo… and head down to Bethells beach for photos.

But the limo broke.

The window had fallen down… and by the time we got across to the car, the groomsmen had already taken to it with the screwdrivers!

Cassells wedding photos

So Erin & Brendon hopped in the back of our car, and we headed down to the beach for a bit of sand trekking.

There was time for a few gorgeous shots, before the rest of the crew arrived…

Cassells wedding photos

Cassells wedding photos

The bridesmaids & groomsmen arrived on the beach, and we sent them on a little walk..

Cassells wedding photos

We put our calf muscles to the test – crossing the wide stretch of deep, dry sand to make it up the sand dunes.

The bridal party had to start on the trek back (we had driven all the way onto the beach, so had a few extra minutes up our sleeves for some last shots on the dunes)..

The last 3 shots are by Melissa – our fabulous new assistant – and these are just a few of the awesome images she contributed to the day!

It was a beautiful wedding, and we had such a great time with you guys!!
Thanks for having us! Enjoy these images.. and there will be plenty more on the way :)

Hamilton School Ball Photos – Sacred Heart end of year ball

Hey guys,

On Friday evening last week, we photographed the Sacred Heart Girls College ball, in Hamilton.

It was such a cool time of year to have a ball – after NCEA exams have finished, no pressure, summer is just kicking off… and if you wanted to sit outside in a ball dress, you didn’t freeze in the winter air!
Good decision all around!

We covered the arrivals, the formal shots, and also the Perspectives specialty… cool dancefloor shots!

Here’s a little preview of how the images are looking… you can see the whole set on our Facebook page.

Tauranga wedding photos – Bryan & Sarah’s sneak peek!

Hey guys,

On Saturday, we headed over to Papamoa on a glorious blue day, to photograph Bryan & Sarah’s beach wedding.

I love shooting on the beach – it’s a chance to kick off the shoes, feel the sand between your toes, and you get the chance to move around more freely than you do at an indoor wedding.
Add to that some perfect weather, with just a light breeze to stop it being overly hot, and you have perfection.

Our day started with a few shots of Bryan getting ready…

Tauranga wedding photos

Tauranga wedding photos

Tauranga wedding photos

It was then off to the girls – where hair & makeup was just finishing up, and Sarah was looking gorgeous!
The beach theme of the day was reflected throughout – Sarah’s dress had a beautiful strip of Paua shell running across it, and Paua jewelry to accent this. So – it was only fitting to be able to incorporate a beach feel into the dress shot!

Tauranga wedding photos

Sarah looked amazing in her dress.

Tauranga wedding photos

We didn’t have to hunt too far to find gorgeous light in the resort where they were getting ready… simply sitting on the couch!

Tauranga wedding photos

Tauranga wedding photos

Down at the beach, the guests had gathered – and the sun was reaching it’s zenith. Usually, this provides tricky conditions for photography – but the right combination of angle they were standing on, plus some nice reflection from the white sand, made for lovely shots. It was super bright though.. I think the boys would have preferred to keep their sunnies on for the whole ceremony!

Tauranga wedding photos

Tauranga wedding photos

These next two shots, to me, epitomize the benefit of having two photographers. Not only having two angles of the same moment… but knowing each other well enough that we don’t get in the background of each other’s shot!

I just love all the expressions in this image – as Sarah’s Dad hands her over to Bryan.

Earlier in the day, we had discovered a great spot down the road from their ceremony, which had some lovely trees, long grass, and was out of the sun.
By the end of the ceremony, congrats, and group & family shots, getting out of the sun seemed very tempting!

So we headed off, and had a little picnic.

It was now time to get back into the sun… but we were all sufficiently cooled down after a picnic in the shade, and the sun had dipped in the sky a little… so heading back to the beach was no worries!

On the way down, we swung by this unlikely looking patch of (palm?) trees dotted randomly in a field – kinda cool!

After spending some time at the reception getting some great candid shots of the guests, we headed off – content with a job well done, and with the warm fuzzy feeling that we always get after a wedding – a bunch of people, coming together to celebrate love & commitment, and having a great time. We are so privileged that this is our job. Congrats Bryan & Sarah – enjoy the images, and hope you’re having a great mystery honeymoon in some undisclosed location!

Hamilton Ball Photos – afterball shoot with Rosa & Kate

Hey guys!

NCEA exams have finished… people are spending their last times together as school friends before heading off around the country to various universities.

So.. what better way to celebrate than a fun photoshoot with friends !?

Rosa & Kate got back into their ball dresses, and we headed out for a super cool shoot in Hamilton yesterday afternoon.
They were fab to work with, and look gorgeous – so hard even choosing these few shots out of so many!

Most of these were taken by Amber – with me just holding lights & helping out with posing.

If you’ve got a few friends who might be keen on doing something like this to celebrate your time at school together (and it’s perfect timing to ask for it as a Xmas present from Mum & Dad!) – get in touch with us & we’ll sort you out a really good deal. :)

Enjoy the photos!

Hamilton engagement photos with Josh & Sarah

Hey guys,

Yesterday, I headed out with Josh & Sarah for a fun engagement photo shoot out at Bridal Veil Falls, near Raglan.

They enjoy bushwalking in their spare time – so we structured the session around that aspect of themselves – incorporating the trees, bush, and gorgeous rural scenery.

They’re leaving us for the (less) greener pastures of Australia – so it’s great to have some shots which incorporate a bit of good old fashioned NZ beauty!!

Here’s a little sneak peek of what we got up to…

Woodlands wedding photos – Jan & Mericia’s sneak peek!

Hi guys,

On Saturday, we had the pleasure of photographing Jan & Mericia’s wedding… which was at St. Andrews church, and then reception out at Woodlands in Gordonton.

It was a gorgeous blue day – perfect weather!

We started off at the boys’ place…

Then it was off to Mericia’s place – where she was looking gorgeous (albeit slightly nervous as the veil went on & it all became real!)

We arrived at the church – which didn’t have a central aisle, but two up either side. The 4 bridesmaids split up – two walked down the left hand aisle, and two down the right… a perfect example of where having two photographers comes in handy!

Mericia’s Dad looked so proud, walking her down the aisle.

There weren’t many dry eyes in the church during the vows..

We love to shoot the congratulations part of the day – such genuine, and joyful expressions!

Woodlands wedding photos

After some group & family photos at the church, we headed out to Woodlands – where we took some photos with the bridal party.

Jan & Mericia were keen on having a few sweeping, landscape style shots.. so we got these done first, and then made tracks for the shade!
Still – even though it was super hot out in the sun, I think the results are well worth it!

Then it was off to the shade of the trees – and a welcome picnic & bottle of champagne for the bridal party.

We finished up with some shots in the lovely backlight…

As they rejoined their guests for a drink on the lawn before the reception, Jan’s brother played them in on his guitar – he is very talented!

It was a fantastic wedding – and these are just a few of the gorgeous shots from the day – enjoy!

Little Polynesian Wedding Photos – Heather & Jeff’s wedding & TTD sneak peeks!

Hey guys,

I’ve just this morning flown in from Rarotonga – where I had the pleasure of photographing the wedding of Heather & Jeff, at the Little Polynesian Boutique Resort.

They had flown all the way from Canada – and I was lucky enough to be able to come over as well, to share in the experience of their day.

The day before the wedding, it poured with torrential rain … so we were a little anxious as to what tomorrow would bring.
The wedding day arrived… and things looked good. A few clouds here & there – but nothing to worry about.

We kicked off the day with a few ‘getting ready’ shots…

Rarotonga Wedding Photographer

Rarotonga Wedding Photographer

Heather’s dress was gorgeous, just above knee height – perfect for walking barefoot on the beach in Rarotonga!

Rarotonga Wedding Photographer

Her flowers were done by Victoria’s Garden – and were absolutely gorgeous!

Rarotonga Wedding Photographer

Heather looked stunning in her dress..

Rarotonga Wedding Photographer

Rarotonga Wedding Photographer

It was time to go. Down on the beach, Jeff was waiting – along with their 6 guests…
Heather walked down the aisle made of palm fronds… and things got underway.

Rarotonga Wedding Photographer

Rarotonga Wedding Photographer

Rarotonga Wedding Photographer

And then… came the rain.
It started as just a shower… and then progressed into a proper downpour!

It changed nothing though (apart from how wet all our clothes were!) – the ceremony was intimate, personal, and I think the rain made it even more beautiful.

Rarotonga Wedding Photographer

Rarotonga Wedding Photographer

At the conclusion of the ceremony – Heather & Jeff took shelter outside of their beachfront Are… while the rain came down in sheets!

Rarotonga Wedding Photographer

Rarotonga Wedding Photographer

Rarotonga Wedding Photographer

By this stage, the bridal table was set – overlooking the horizon pool & out to sea… picture perfect tropical wedding!

Rarotonga Wedding Photographer

It was still pouring with rain… so instead of going out for some pictures with the family, it was time for Tapas & drinks instead…

Rarotonga Wedding Photographer

Rarotonga Wedding Photographer

After some delicious food, and a few cocktails – the rain had cleared up enough to get down on the beach for family photos.

Rarotonga Wedding Photographer

Rarotonga Wedding Photographer

Heather & Jeff watched the storm that had drenched their ceremony as it retreated over the horizon…

Rarotonga Wedding Photographer

Rarotonga Wedding Photographer

We had an hour or so to race around for some shots – starting off with the beach right in front of Little Poly -

Rarotonga Wedding Photographer

Rarotonga Wedding Photographer

And then a quick trip down the road to see if we could find a sunset.

On the way – a detour for some shots walking through the coconut trees…

Rarotonga Wedding Photographer

Rarotonga Wedding Photographer

Considering the amount of rain we’d had – I was fairly dubious as to whether there would be any kind of sunset.
Luckily… I was proved wrong – and an amazing display of late afternoon light topped off their day perfectly.

Rarotonga Wedding Photographer

Rarotonga Wedding Photographer

Rarotonga Wedding Photographer

Rarotonga Wedding Photographer

As the light faded – we headed back to Little Polynesian for a fantastic dinner.
I love this reflection shot – looking back from across the pool..

Rarotonga Wedding Photographer

And one of the downlights in the lobby..

Rarotonga Wedding Photographer

Earlier in the week, they had caught (inherited) some Wahoo… and the chef was able to use this as the basis for the main meal for everyone – adding a lovely special touch, being able to provide their own food to share.
The absolute best part of this photo… this was my plate! :)

Rarotonga Wedding Photographer

And yes – it tasted as amazing as it looked!

The table was adorned with a fabulous centerpiece, also from Victoria’s Garden.

Rarotonga Wedding Photographer

The evening continued on – with cake cutting (and eating) – and a fantastic dance performance by two of the Little Poly staff.
Heather’s uncle even managed to find a flower for everyone’s hair!

Rarotonga Wedding Photographer

It was a perfect way to cap off a beautiful day – one that I feel very privileged to have shared a part in!

I headed back to get some sleep, charge the camera batteries, backup the photos from the day, and get ready for part two…

Day Two – Trash the Dress shoot!

The next day, Heather got back into her dress, and came up to town for some cool shots, using some of the old structures… (and showing off her new cowboy boots, which Jeff didn’t (possibly still doesn’t!) know about…

Rarotonga Wedding Photographer

After the first few shots, the sun came out in such full force that all the camera lenses fogged up – and so we sat & ate popsicles for half an hour until they came right!

Then, time for a few more…

Rarotonga Wedding Photographer

Rarotonga Wedding Photographer

We headed back to Little Poly to collect Jeff, and Heather changed into her second dress – which she had brought along specifically to get a little crazy with!

What better way to begin than by dragging the hem through a little mud..

Rarotonga Wedding Photographer

and a few shots with the thick jungle of the mountain heights in the background..

Rarotonga Wedding Photographer

Rarotonga Wedding Photographer

Then… time to get a little wet.

Rarotonga Wedding Photographer

Rarotonga Wedding Photographer

Rarotonga Wedding Photographer

Down the road, the waterfall was benefiting from the recent rains – with plenty of volume coming through. Not as much as Niagara Falls… but Heather & Jeff haven’t been there before.. so we can pretend! :)

Rarotonga Wedding Photographer

The water in the river was so much colder than in the sea… guess who was the more eager for these photos???

Rarotonga Wedding Photographer

Heather was really keen to get a photo in a tree… and just as we were beginning to give up, Jeff spotted this perfect little location!

Rarotonga Wedding Photographer

Back down at Little Poly, we finished up on the beach – just as the last bit of light was fading in the sky.

Rarotonga Wedding Photographer

Rarotonga Wedding Photographer

The day turned to night, and we called it a wrap.

After a lovely dinner with the family, we said our goodbyes (after I had been totally spoiled with presents, T-shirts, a huge bottle of Maple syrup from CostCo, pearls for Amber) – and I headed back to NZ.
I feel so lucky to have spent these few days with you guys – you are a fantastic couple, and your wedding was just perfect.

Now it’s our turn to visit Canada!

Enjoy these photos – just a tiny taste of what’s to come :)

Hamilton wedding photos – Scott & Kerri’s sneak peek!

Hi guys!

Yesterday, we headed out on a humid Hamilton morning to photograph Scott & Kerri’s wedding.

When we arrived at the boys’ place, it was warming up… and the decisions were being made as to go with jackets / waistcoats / ties… bearing in mind that the ceremony was going to be in a greenhouse!!

The call was eventually made to go with the jackets & waistcoats, minus the ties.. very sharp indeed!

Here’s Scott… who is also a registered celebrant… and a fantastic guy.

Hamilton city wedding photos

Hamilton city wedding photos

Then it was off to Kerri’s place.. where she was looking fabulous – Denise from Spoilt Mobile Beauty was just finishing up the makeup, and Karen from Wedding Flowers by Karen arrived with some gorgeous bouquets.
Once Kerri was dressed, Dad was waiting expectantly at the bottom of the stairs for the first glimpse of his daughter..

Hamilton city wedding photos

Hamilton city wedding photos

If you follow our blog / Facebook page – you’ll know that one of our passions is lighting – it’s a great personal & artistic challenge for us to arrive on a wedding day, and at any given house to find / create some gorgeous lighting. It’s very much a part of what makes our work look the way it does. The next shot was somewhat lit by the light above Kerri, and finished off with a bit extra from one of our lights.

Hamilton city wedding photos

We headed out into the garden, for a few shots before we left…

Hamilton city wedding photos

Hamilton city wedding photos

Down at the Hamilton Gardens, everyone was waiting eagerly for Kerri’s arrival.

Hamilton city wedding photos

Hamilton city wedding photos

And then we were underway!

Their ceremony was beautiful – heartfelt & real. While we were at Kerri’s place, I photographed a copy of their vows written on a piece of paper… only to find that Amber had already seen & shot the same image, but her’s was only focused on one little line, because she didn’t want to read the whole of the vows & spoil the surprise & experience for herself during the ceremony!

It’s one of the best parts of the job that we’re so privileged to have… being able to share such intimate moments with people.

Hamilton city wedding photos

Hamilton city wedding photos

Hamilton city wedding photos

After the ceremony, we raced around town for a fun photoshoot with the bridal party.

Kerri was really keen to get a dramatic shot standing on a ridgeline, with the sky in behind her.
I think we managed to achieve that.

Hamilton city wedding photos

Hamilton city wedding photos

The pillars & structure of the courthouse are great – one of Hamilton’s few somewhat ‘classic’ styled buildings.

Hamilton city wedding photos

Another thing that both Scott & Kerri were keen on was the idea of doing some ‘everyday things’ in their wedding gear… and visiting a cafe was a great excuse to have a quick break (at least, the bridal party got to sit down!) and most importantly, Amber & I were able to rectify the blood / caffeine balance in our systems!

Hamilton city wedding photos

To get this shot, we ended up waiting for a break in the traffic, and then entirely blocking the road in both directions as the bridal party walked along it.
Thanks to Hamilton’s driving public for being so understanding :)

Hamilton city wedding photos

Continuing the whirlwind tour, we made a brief stop at a cool railway junction – where we got some more grungy, grimy shots…

Hamilton city wedding photos

And then finished up with a few on the edge of Hamilton Lake, as we made our way back to their reception at the Verandah.

After their meal & reception – we arrived back at the Verandah to photograph a lantern release.. which they were doing as a memorial for a friend.
It was touching, and a perfect way to finish off a beautiful wedding.

Scott & Kerri – you guys are an amazing couple, and your wedding was fantastic.
Thanks so much for trusting us to capture your day, and help create memories that your grandchildren will cherish.

Isaac, Amber, and Holly.

An exciting announcement… Perspectives is moving to Auckland!

As of the week beginning December 20th… we will officially be Aucklanders.

Perspectives Photography is relocating from the Tron… up to the big smoke.

We’re also putting together a studio, which will be in Westgate… easy to get to, and still close to the beach! It will be the first time we’ve had a dedicated shooting space, for portraits & commercial work. It’s a super exciting step for us – as we can now shoot a range of work that previously we have needed to book studio space elsewhere.

To celebrate – we’ll be launching the new studio with some primo specials – as well as having a cool launch party once we have everything set up the way we want it.

So keep an eye on our blog & Facebook for details :)

We’ll still continue booking & shooting weddings throughout New Zealand – so nothing changes there, apart from the fact that we’re now closer to the airport!

Have a fab weekend… and anyone that knows people in these professions… we’d love to hear from you:

** Carpet layer
** Plasterer
** Cabinet maker / joinery
** Painter

If you know of anyone who works in the above fields & might be keen to swap their services for photos – send us an email & let us know.
